Go where beautiful blue waters float you through the Wachau Valley, renowned for its picturesque villages, ancient medieval castles, and lush terraced vineyards. Stay in two of the Danube's most fascinating cities, Vienna and Regensburg and drink in the breathtaking scenery as you cruise between them. Begin your trip with two nights in majestic Vienna, where its music and art await, have a slice of Apfelstrudel, open your ears to the beauty of a Strauss waltz. Savor this most imperial of cities that offers up a wealth of treasures. Then step back in time as you travel on the MS Rossini to the enchanting medieval towns of Linz, Durnstein, and Melk, renowned for its spectacular Benedictine Abbey. Disembark in Passau and enjoy two nights in the ancient city of Regensburg, a medieval miracle bursting with historical landmarks. Sense the breadth of 2000 years as you gaze at a Roman gateway, a Carolingian palace, a mysterious Romanesque portal. From this idyllic location, travel to Munich and discover this dynamic city nestled under the wing of the Alps.

MS Rossini

The MS Rossini has 95 tastefully appointed staterooms. The former "Princess of the Danube" offers 4 star accommodations and personalized service in a refined and comfortable ambience, accompanied by breathtaking views of surrounding scenery.

You'll find the cabins on the MS Rossini to be spacious and elegant, furnished with a TV, safe, and private bathroom. Inside and outside cabins, located on the Austria and Bavaria Decks are mainly double occupancy with 2 lower twin beds. A few offer an additional fold-away bed for a third person. Most cabins have large viewing windows; though some toward the front of the ship have portholes.

Itinerary: Danube River Cruise

DAY 1 Depart the U.S.A.

DAY 2 VIENNA. Arrive in Vienna, the imperial city on the Danube River and transfer to your hotel.

DAY 3 VIENNA. This morning's included panoramic city drive will introduce you to the highlights of this romantic city including the striking State Opera House, Parliament, and the impressive Hofburg Palace. A stroll through the medieval lanes around St. Stephen's Cathedral will conjure up images of Vienna's past while the delicious scent of coffee and Viennese pastries will entice you into its many cafes. In the evening enjoy an OPTIONAL dinner and visit to Schonbrunn Palace. Dine on the Palace grounds after an exclusive guided tour of the Palace's magnificent rooms. The evening culminates in the stunningly renovated Orangery, the longest of its kind in the world. Enjoy a performance by the Schšnbrunn Palace Orchestra playing the most loved pieces of Mozart and Strauss. An enchanting evening you won't want to miss. (BB)

DAY 4 VIENNA/CRUISE. Morning at leisure or join an OPTIONAL excursion to some of the most beautiful sights in the Vienna Woods. The tour begins with a drive to Heilingenkreuz to visit a Cistercian Abbey, founded in the 12th century and a fine example of Romanesque-Gothic architecture. Continue to Baden, the cultural capital of Austria, rich in a variety of baths, springs, parks, gardens and coffeehouses and on to Gumpoldskirchen, an enchanting village where you'll enjoy lunch in a traditional wine tavern. In the late afternoon board your exclusively chartered cruise ship MS Rossini where as guests of the Captain you are invited to a "Welcome" reception followed by dinner and overnight on board the ship. DAY 5 CRUISE/DURNSTEIN/MELK. This morning you arrive in Durnstein, perhaps the most beautiful town on the Danube. See the ruins of Durnstein castle where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned in the 12th century. Explore the quaintness of this medieval town, perhaps stop in a charming cafe for a glass of wine from this famous wine growing region. Continue to Melk, a gateway to the lush Wachau Valley. Enjoy an included visit to the world-renowned 900-year-old Benedictine Abbey that dominates the town from high above the Danube river, and houses a rich collection of art. Afternoon at leisure. DAY 6 CRUISE/LINZ. After breakfast, an included tour of Linz, the capital of the state of Upper Austria. Enjoy the morning taking in the Renaissance and Baroque architecture in this university town. Visit the Main Square, one of the most lovely in Austria. In the afternoon relax on board as you glide past gorgeous countryside and tranquil villages. (BB,L,D)

DAY 7 CRUISE/REGENSBURG. This morning after disembarkation in Passau, the City of Three Rivers, you will have time to explore the heraldic city center. Thereafter, drive to Regensburg, Germany's most picturesque medieval city and enjoy an included tour upon arrival. You'll be fascinated by this 2000-year-old well-preserved city that boasts great tower-like mansions left by wealthy citizens who traded all over the world. Explore its historic Old Town, the Gothic Cathedral with its exquisite stained glass windows and soaring spires, and the 12th century stone bridge, the Danube's first. Check into your Regensburg hotel. Evening at leisure. (BB)

DAY 8 REGENSBURG/MUNICH. Travel to Munich and enjoy the morning's included sightseeing, discovering this dynamic city, rich in museums, churches and historical sights. A panoramic drive will include the Olympic Park and Stadium, the Triumphal Arch, and a stop at the splendid Nymphenburg Palace, summer residence of the Wittelsbach family. Visit the Marienplatz with its impressive glockenspiel with free time to explore before returning to Regensburg. Evening at leisure. (BB)

DAY 9 REGENSBURG/U.S.A. Transfer to Munich airport for your return flight to the U.S.A. (BB)
