Day 3 Beijing. Step back in time as you explore this ancient city. Sightseeing begins at Tiananmen Square, the largest public square in the world where the chronicles of history have played from ancient times to Mao's raising of the flag of the People's Republic of China. Relive the past as you enter the extraordinary Forbidden City, closed to the public for over 500 years. Here, find China's largest imperial palace and some of the country's best-preserved ancient buildings. In the afternoon experience an exciting rickshaw ride through narrow streets, known as Hutongs, in the centuries-old residential area of Beijing. Capital Hotel (AB, L, D)
Day 4 Beijing. Begin your day with a brief stop at the Olympic Village for photo opportunities of the legendary Bird's Nest and Water Cube. Continue north of Beijing to experience China's Great Wall, an extraordinary 4,000 mile-long fortification built over 2,000 years ago. A walk along its undulating and turreted path is spectacular. Then, a short drive to where a tree and statue-lined road takes you to one of the magnificent Ming Tombs, a series of 13 underground palaces built to hold the lavish wealth of Ming emperors, and the Chang Ling Exhibition Hall where the great emperors' historic relics can be found. Day 5 Beijing/Xi'an. This morning's sightseeing begins at the ornately embellished Temple of Heaven, a masterpiece of Ming architecture, located in a large park and housing the impressive Hall of Prayer. After lunch fly to historic Xi'an, a crossroads of ancient cultures that has served as the capital of eleven dynasties. New World Hotel Xi'an (AB, L, D)
Day 6 Xi'an/ChonGqing. Take an unforgettable excursion to the tomb of the First Emperor of China and revel at the remarkable discoveries that have been buried for many centuries. Visit the archaeological site to view more than 1,000 of the 7,000 life-sized and uniquely detailed figures of the Terracotta Warriors and their horses. This is surely one of the most stunning sights of the trip. After lunch fly to the 'Mountain City' of Chongqing, the largest metropolitan area in the world, where you will enjoy dinner in a local restaurant prior to boarding the deluxe Century Diamond cruise ship to begin an unforgettable journey on the fabled Yangtze River. Day 7 Yangtze River Cruise. Cruise downstream and enjoy a shore excursion to Fengdu, better known as the City of Ghosts, situated on Mingshan Hill, where ghoulish statues of demons dot the grounds of the temples. In the afternoon view the local life as you journey past river towns and villages. Perhaps hear a lecture about how the Three Gorges Dam has changed the lifestyle of the local people. (AB, L, D)
Day 8 Yangtze River Cruise. Breathtaking scenery unfolds this morning as you enter the first of the Three Gorges, dramatic Qutang Gorge. Transfer to a motor launch for a cruise up the Daning River to view the Three Lesser Gorges. Alternately, your excursion may be on the Shennong Stream with its equally impressive small gorges. People of the Ba Kingdom once lived here over two thousand years ago and entombed their nobles in coffins suspended high in cliff crevices. Upon your return to the ship continue through Wu Gorge's zigzagging valley of forested mountains and quiet beauty, and on through Xiling Gorge, longest of the famed Three Gorges. In the evening sail through the five giant ship locks of the Three Gorges Dam. (AB, L, D)
Day 9 Yangtze River Cruise/Yichang/Shanghai. Today, visit the Three Gorges Dam site, the world's largest hydroelectric dam and a remarkable tribute to modern engineering, before disembarking in Yichang. Fly to the bustling city of Shanghai, one of China's largest and most westernized cities, located at the confluence of the Huangpu River and Suzhou Creek, and transfer to your hotel. Day 10 Shanghai. Spend today exploring this vibrant city. Visit the Bund, the East's most famous street, a wide riverside avenue dominated by buildings of a grand European style. Explore the graceful Yu Garden in the oldest part of Shanghai and the Jade Buddha Temple. Here, see the renowned white jade Buddha that made this temple famous. Travelers on the optional extension to Yellow Mountain (Huangshan) will transfer to the Shanghai airport for the evening flight to Huangshan, and upon arrival transfer to the Huangshan International Hotel.
Day 11 Shanghai/U.S.A. Travelers returning to the U.S.A. will transfer to the airport for their return flight, cross the International Date Line, and arrive the same day to connect with flights home. (AB)

Yellow Mountain (Huangshan) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site whose timeless beauty has been immortalized in poetry and paintings of its twisted pine trees and precipitous mountain peaks appearing through a sea of clouds. Following the sightseeing and dinner in Shanghai, transfer to the airport for an evening flight to Huangshan and check-in to the Huangshan International Hotel.
Day 11 Huangshan/Shanghai.
After breakfast, ascend by cable car to Yellow Mountain (Huangshan), a beloved national treasure, to enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside Ð spectacular landscapes of jagged, granite peaks, bamboo groves and gnarled pines, enshrouded in a billowing mist.
