SPAIN

Take a moment away from your busy day to imagine. See yourself in the Prado taking in one masterpiece after another, or sipping sangria on a wide cafe-lined promenade that runs along the sandy beaches of the Costa del Sol. Imagine taking a drive through a countryside of whitewashed villages, or in the marketplace of Tangier bartering for perfumes, spices and fabrics. Close your eyes and imagine watching a flamenco dancer in a swirling red dress, or a bullfighter twirling his red cape. See yourself exploring a Moorish palace so enchanting it seems out of the pages of a storybook with its pink stone courtyards, pools, fountains and patios. How exciting to be in a land of wild beauty, steeped in romance, mysterious, and rich in history.

Itinerary:

DAY 1 U.S.A./Madrid
Depart for Madrid via a transatlantic flight.

DAY 2 Madrid
Arrive in Madrid and transfer to your hotel.

DAY 3 Madrid
Today begins with sightseeing of Madrid, Spain's dazzling capital city. See the well-known Puerta del Sol, (Gateway of the Sun), one of the city's liveliest areas full of shops and cafes. Visit the Plaza de Espana, the lovely Cibeles Fountain, the elegant Calle Alcala and Paseo de la Castellana. In the afternoon enjoy an optional excursion to Toledo. This ancient Castilian capital attracts more sightseers from around the world than any other Spanish town. Perched upon a granite hill, surrounded by a loop of the Tagus River, the views are spectacular wherever you look. See the Gothic Cathedral, famous for its magnificent stained glass windows from the 15th and 16th centuries, and the church of Santo Tome, home of El Greco's most famous paintings, as well as many other highlights.

DAY 4 Madrid/Cordoba/Seville
After breakfast, transfer to the train station for a journey via a 'Talgo' train to Cordoba, and a tour of this remarkable city. From the old Roman Bridge with its Arab watchtower to a 10th century mosque with a Christian cathedral at its center to "La Juderia" with its evocative statues of Jewish philosophers, the city of Cordoba is an historical crossroad rich in cultural contrast. Depart Cordoba for Seville via motor coach and upon arrival in Seville, check into your hotel.

DAY 5 Seville
Enjoy the morning sightseeing in Seville, one of the most elegant cities in Spain. See the gorgeous Maria Luisa Park, the impressive Plaza de Espa–a, the legendary Moorish Torre del Oro (Tower of Gold), and the Alcazar Palace, home of Spanish Kings for almost seven centuries. Visit one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in the world, where you'll see what is said to be the tomb of Christopher Columbus. In the evening enjoy an optional Dinner and Flamenco Show in Seville. The incredible speed and precision of an authentic flamenco dance, the rhythm of castanets, the intricate tap of steel toed shoes, the swirl of brilliantly colored costumes. Romantic, exciting and so very Spain.

DAY 6 Seville/Costa del Sol
In the morning transfer via motor coach to the Costa del Sol, a paradise overlooking the Mediterranean where the blue skies blend with the sea. Here on Spain's southern coast you will enjoy historic sights dating back to the Phoenicians and Romans, and indulge in the best of Spanish and international cuisine, tapas bars, and exciting night life.

DAY 7 Costa del Sol
Day at leisure or take an optional excursion to Granada. Shaped by the Moors, the fabled city of Granada nestles at the foot of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada Mountains. The Alhambra Palace, dating back to the 14th century, is a complex of pink stone courtyards, pools, fountains, halls and patios, created to be paradise on earth by the Moors. See the Generalife Gardens, the country estate of the Nasrid Kings, with spectacular views of the whole city, and the Albaicin, the old Moorish quarter that clings to the hillside opposite the Alhambra.

DAY 8 Costa del Sol
Day at leisure or enjoy an optional excursion to see the Treasures of Andalusia. The second largest city in Andalusia, Malaga was an important port city for both the Romans and the Moors, and its ancient beginnings are still quite evident everywhere you look. See Malaga's fascinating 16th century cathedral, the vast Alcazaba, an ancient Moorish palace/fortress, and Casa Natal de Picasso, the famous painter's birthplace. Travel to the lovely village of Mijas with its picturesque whitewashed houses and lovely views of the coast below.

DAY 9 Costa del sol/Madrid
Transfer to Madrid via a high speed 'Talgo' train and check into your hotel for the night.
