September 11

Rome

Arrive in the legendary city of Rome and check in to your deluxe accommodations. Explore on your own-stroll along cobbled streets, sip espresso in a sidewalk cafe, or gaze upon the timeless beauty of the Spanish Steps. In the evening, you may wish to dine al fresco in the historic Trastevere neighborhood or simply relax and soak in the Roman atmosphere.

September 12

Rome

This morning, experience the spiritual heart of the Catholic world with a guided visit to Vatican City. Marvel at the grandeur of St. Peter’s Basilica, view Renaissance masterpieces, and take in the historic significance of this sovereign city-state.

Optional Afternoon Tour: Extend your day with an optional excursion to Tivoli and the enchanting Gardens of Villa d’Este ($229 per person). Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this Renaissance villa is famed for its majestic fountains, grottoes, and terraced gardens. Stroll through lush landscapes and marvel at the artistry and engineering that inspired generations of architects and artists

September 13

Rome

After breakfast, set out for a guided half-day tour to Ostia Antica, often called “the Pompeii of Rome.” This remarkably preserved archaeological site reveals a vivid snapshot of daily life in ancient Roman times. Meander through ancient baths, temples, a theater, and mosaicked villas, all set within a quiet, tree-lined park. Return to the city in the early afternoon with time to relax or explore independently-perhaps visit the Pantheon or enjoy a gelato near Piazza Navona.

September 14

Rome

Savor breakfast before embarking on a final morning of discovery. Step inside the iconic Colosseum, where gladiators once battled, and take in panoramic views of the Roman Forum (outside visit), once the political and commercial center of ancient Rome. Conclude your tour with a visit to the Papal Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls-one of Rome’s four major basilicas and a site of extraordinary beauty and reverence. In the afternoon, embark your ship for your cruise.

    Travelers should be confident in their ability to walk and stand for a minimum of 5 hours with a total of 2-4 miles per day while keeping a steady pace with a group or tour guide. This tour can involve walking on uneven ground for extended periods and occasionally stairs, some without handrails. Travelers should be able to board a coach or tour bus independently. This tour is not recommended for those with a walker or wheelchair. Local customs require covering knees and shoulders when visiting religious sites.
