John W. Williams, JD (C’76), is the trip scholar for our Indonesian & Malaysian Joy voyage. Among other duties, John is Professor of Political Science, director of the College’s Asian Studies program, and former College President. John grew up in South and Southeast Asia, his father was a career military officer and diplomat, having served in pre-1949 China, Korea, Vietnam, India, and Thailand. John attended intermediate school at the American International School in New Delhi, India and completed junior high and high school at the International School of Bangkok, Thailand.
John earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Principia College. John served as the teaching assistant on Principia’s first travel-study program to Southeast Asia in 1975, traveling to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Indonesian islands of Sumatra, Java, and Bali.
John has been teaching political science at Principia since 1983. He has served as the director of the Asian Studies program at Principia College focusing on Asia and Africa and has directed more than a dozen Principia study abroad programs to Mainland Asia providing students with immersive experiences in global politics and cultures. John serves as a popular lecturer for Principia Lifelong Learning and Summer Session programs.
